  • State Budget Impact on St. Luke

Ohio Governor John Kasich unveiled the state budget proposal, which attempts to reduce the estimated 8 billion dollar shortfall in state funds. The budget contained changes decreasing Medicaid reimbursement by approximately $425 million for long term care providers. Since we are heavily dependent on Medicaid funding, this budget has a severe effect on St. Luke Lutheran Community and all long term care providers in the state of Ohio.

We clearly recognize that the state needs to be more fiscally responsible and in addition, offer (and pay for) more home and community based services for people who desire to remain at home. However, at the same time, consideration must be given to ensure that long term care providers are fairly compensated for the care and services we provide. It is hard to believe that in today’s world of more people requiring long term care services that the state would be reducing this payment.

During the last four years, St. Luke has attempted to anticipate the reduced level of Medicaid reimbursement. We can assure you that St. Luke will continue to provide the highest quality service, and we will continue to look for ways to more efficient without compromising service.

I encourage you to advocate on our behalf for fair reimbursement for the important services we provide to our area’s seniors.
